Our Clothes room provision has become well established and each week we have 2 tables and 3 rails of clothing and household items available to all service users who can take up to 5 items a week.
We now have a well-stocked storeroom and a small team of Kay and myself with help from the wider team where possible.
We continue to be able to provide a range of mostly second-hand clothing and household goods.
There are many people who regularly leave us donations including organisations, individuals, our volunteers and service users who like to give something back. Some of our supporters are further afield like Peggy in Wilmslow who comes over several times a year with her car full of bedding and clothes she has collected and sorted and sometimes washed before she hands it over to us. Then there is Ruby in Rhos on Sea who knits very beautiful children's clothes and regularly sends us a surprise package of her lovely work.
Sorting and storing these items so that we can quickly find them is quite labour intensive and despite being a small team, we have well organised storage spaces.
Our priority is to offer pleasing items in good condition and to distribute the items in a transparent and fair way according to need. Clothing is very personal, and we try to give time and privacy. When new asylum seekers arrive, often with very few belongings, we try to kit them out with items of clothing, bedding and household items. We give them as much time and attention as we can. After a few weeks they become less anxious as they accumulate some of the things they need.
Both asylum seekers and refugees can ask us for particular items if they are in need and we will try to help.
Both Kay and I love to see how happy service users are when they find something they like to keep. This is a very enjoyable part of the work and we try to improve our service all the time.
We would greatly appreciate donations of the following items in good condition:
- Men’s black size 7,8 and 9s trainers.
- Men’s clothing items in small sizes.
- Duvet covers and sheets.
- Towels.
- New Umbrellas.
- Boys clothing 9 months - 2 years.
